In 2021, more than a 110 bills have been introduced by thirty-three states in the country to curb the rights of trasgender community. Out of these, thirty-one states have introduced bills that prevent trans athletes from participating in sports consistent with their gender identities (CNN, 2021).

17 anti-LGBTQ bills have been enacted into law surpassing 2015 as the worst year for anti-LGBTQ legislation in recent history (when 15 anti-LGBTQ bills were enacted into law), including: 7 anti-trans sports bans in Arkansas, Alabama, Tennessee, Mississippi, Montana, and West Virginia. At least 69 bills that would prohibit transgender youth (and in some cases college students) from participating in sports consistent with their gender identity

These sports bills are another attack on the transgender community and its rights. They will not only harm trans athletes of all ages, but also inculcate in sections of society the urge to ostracize and discriminate against the entire trans community. We must come together as allies to this community, and speak up against unfair laws. Our campaign aims to do just that through increased awareness, education, and conversation.

Mocked, threatened, and Abused.

Transgender athletes, as well as the entire trans community, have faced ongoing harassment on media platforms. They are being called names and being treated extremely poorly, for no fault of theirs. Here are a few examples of verbal abuse they have faced.

The Negative Impacts of the Bills

"If these bills are enacted, it would mean that states will have enacted more anti-LGBTQ bills this year alone than in the last three years combined."

"When trans kids have access to gender-affirming spaces at school, like a locker room, a restroom, a sports team, they are 25% less likely to commit suicide. And when we look at rates of suicidality and depression, we know that they are significantly higher when trans kids don't have access to those gender-affirming spaces."
