Texas Senate Passes Anti-Transgender Sports Ban Bill
The Texas Senate, which was reconvened for a special session earlier this month, passed SB 2, a bill that would ban the participation of transgender women and girls in sports consistent with their gender identity.

The Senate passed a similar anti-transgender sports ban bill, SB 29, during the regular session this spring.

33 states have introduced more than 100 bills that aim to curb the rights of transgender people across the country. At least 66 proposed laws would prohibit trans students from participating on sports teams consistent with their gender identity, and 15 would block trans people from using restrooms or locker rooms that match their gender identity, according to the Human Rights Campaign, an LGBTQ rights organization.
